Jo will demonstrate how to make faces using unusual fabrics. Visualize a polka dot face, flower eyes, chicken hair. The sky's the limit!

BRAZILIAN EMBROIDERY by Marci Mills
Discover how embroidery stitches can take on totally different looks, depending on the fibers and materials that are used. In this hands-on tutorial, you’ll be making a small dimensional sampler of basic embroidery stitches (kit will be provided). Examine Marci’s embroidered pieces as well as books from her personal library.

INTRO TO MIXED MEDIA by Pam Richardson
In this method, torn or cut paper and fabric scraps are layered, heat-set, and machine-basted. The entire surface is coated with acrylic matte medium. Once dry, the surface can be colored, painted, and stitched. The surface is pliable enough for hand-embroidery, including couching heavier threads as linear elements. Pam will explain the technique and share her insights about the performance of various materials.

At our membership meeting, Jeri will discuss (and show!) the types of materials and supplies she uses to make her signature collage cards. Gather up your own collection of inspired materials because two weeks later, we’ll gather at Lakes Regional Library for a morning workshop in card-making! We’ll adjourn to a local restaurant for lunch.

Look past the traditional use of lace as an ornamental element in clothing and decor and you’ll see that lace offers an interesting study of positive and negative spaces. Learn how to use lace designs as stencils, printing blocks, or rubbing plates and how to color it without resorting to conventional dyes. Discover ways to incorporate these lace design elements into your fiber art.

STAINED GLASS APPLIQUE by Bonnie Langenfeld
Bonnie shares a method for outlining any shape an artist wants to incorporate as a surface design. It’s done without stitching and is particularly good for a stained glass look. Members will follow along, making their own sample, as Bonnie demos the technique.
What to bring:

Three 5 x 8-inch pieces of fabric. Two of the fabrics should contrast with each other. The third piece should be black.

Sharp, small scissors
